Jai Ho Vijay gets back relics of Mahatma
Mahatma Gandhi's five daily used artciles now the relics of past - metallic round eye glasses, a pair of sandals, pocket watch of 1910, a bowl and plate ultimately went under the hammer in New York: Vijay Mallaya Captain of Indian industry famous liquor baron Chairman Kingfisher bidded for USD 1.8 million after many hours of twist to the story of auction being put off and on the Great drama.However the sale in favour of India now to take two weeks to finalise as the owner of Gandhi's prized memorabilia, James Otis had announced outside the Antiquorum Auctioneers auction house that he has decided not to sell the items in the light of controversy but ultimately called by the auctioner for his reasons "The items would be kept with the Auctioneer for two weeks to resolve any claims," a spokesperson for Antiquorum Auctioneers said.
Father of Nation who worked for millions of people tirelessly to bring amity and unity to India sub-continent his daily needs articles used by him now the relics after hundred years put to Auction at New York by Los Angeles based film maker James Otis who called himself it commercialised auction against Gandhian philosophy ultimately the auction on way but the winner of bid to the historical auction was completed by Vijay Mallya for sum of Rs 9 Cr. He will have to wait for next two weeks to get the possession of items of the Father of the Nation. The liqour baron is then expected to return the items to the Government of India.
Tony Bedi, who bidded on behalf of Mallya said that he was "bidding for the country" and this sale means that Gandhi's items would now return to India.
Apart from trademark spectacles, which once Gandhi has said gave him "the vision to free India," a pair of his worn sandals, his Zenith pocket watch, made in about 1910, a bowl and plate went under the hammer. PTI
