UN Climate Change Conference in Cancún Cancún, 11 December 2010 The UN Climate Change Conference in Cancún, Mexico, ended on Saturday with the adoption of a balanced package of decisions that set all governments more firmly on the path towards a low-emissions future and support enhanced action on climate change in the developing world.The package, dubbed the Cancún Agreements was welcomed to repeated loud and prolonged applause and acclaim by Parties in the final plenary. Cancún has done its job. The beacon of hope has been reignited and faith in the multilateral climate change process to deliver results has been restored, said UNFCCC Executive Secretary Christiana Figueres. Nations have shown they can work together under a common roof, to reach consensus on a common cause. They have shown that consensus in a transparent and inclusive process can create opportunity for all,she said. International Human Rights Day being observed today

Today is International Human Rights Day. Several functions, seminars are being organised across the country to mark the occasion. Human Rights Day 2010 will highlight the achievements of human rights defenders and to inspire a new generation of defenders to speak up and take action to end discrimination in all of its forms whenever and wherever it is manifested. This year a well known human rights activist from India Dr. Lenin Raguvanshi will be presented the 2010 Human Rights Award of the city of Weimar in Germany. Dr. Raguvanshi the founder of People Vigilance Committee on Human Rights has been chosen for the award for his efforts to protect the rights of disadvantaged section of the society such as women, Children, Dalit and minorities.

Marathon Man Of India

Dr. (Wg. Cdr.) Ashis Roy born in 1932, served in the Indian Air Force for 21 years and after retirement settled in New Delhi in 1978 as a Practicing Physician Cardiologist. At the age of 50 years Dr. Roy took up jogging when he was 50years and running to maintain good health. He ran his 1st Marathon at the age of 52 and by the time he became 78 years old, he has completed 106 marathon races, which is a National record for men in India. His achievements in the field of most strenuous sports of running 42.2 Km. marathon, is the rarest example of extraordinary excellence in sports. His achievements are enumerated in the following paragraphs. Roy’s 107th marathon races include 69 marathons in foreign countries like U.S.A (39 marathons), Canada (12 marathons), U.K. (2 marathons), and one each in Greece, Holland, Poland, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Macau, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Germany, Czechoslovakia, Austria and Pakistan.
