Arjun Singh Chaudhri prevails in playoff to win in Karnal

Karnal, Haryana, May 12, 2011: Arjun Singh Chaudhri of Noida prevailed in a playoff against Karan Vasudeva of Delhi to win the PGTI Feeder Tour event at the Madhuban Meadows Golf Course in Karnal. The two golfers ended the regulation 54 holes with an identical total of 12 under 195 before Chaudhri emerged champion on the first playoff hole.Arjun Singh Chaudhri (69-65-61) fired a blistering eight under 61 on Thursday to equal the course record set by Mahinder Singh of Chandigarh in the previous round. Arjun had a slow start as he made birdie-bogey on the second and third and then went on to make pars till the eighth. The 31-year-old then came up with an unbelievable run of six birdies and an eagle on the last 10 holes.
Chaudhri sealed the win with a birdie on the first playoff hole (18th hole). He produced a magnificent approach shot that landed within one feet on the playoff hole and led to a birdie. Vasudeva on the other hand, missed a three feet birdie putt during the playoff.Arjun, who won his first title on the PGTI and overall second professional title, said, “It’s an amazing feeling to win after being seven shots off the lead at the end of round two. I’ve been hitting the ball really well and just wanted to play my best today. I made some good up and downs and the putts rolled in as well.“My eagle putts lipped-out on the 12th and 16th but I finally managed to sink an eagle from 20 feet on the 17th. The eagle on the 17th was the turning point for me as it gave me the momentum for the birdie on the 18th and the decisive birdie during the playoff. This is my best round on the PGTI and I hope to replicate this performance on the Aircel PGTI.”

Arjun Singh Chaudhri now leads the PGTI Feeder Tour Order of Merit as a result of taking home a winning cheque of Rs. 76,290 from Karnal, Karan Vasudeva (65-64-66) made an eagle on the 12th, five birdies and four bogeys in his final round.Kapil Kumar finished third at 11 under 196 while Ranjit Singh, Manoj Kumar and Deepinder Singh Kullar were tied fourth at 10 under 197.
