Bill on making sports ombudsman public authority:The Government will soon introduce a comprehensive Bill in Parliament declaring all sports federations, including BCCI, as public authorities. The federations will be open to RTI queries and their will be a sports ombudsman or Lokpal to hear all types of complaint.In an exclusive interview to AIR, Union Sports Minister Ajay Maken said through this Bill, anti-doping norms would get legislative sanctions. He said there would also be a provision to check sexual harassment cases in sporting bodies.In case of BCCI, Maken said, 25 per cent of executive body members will be those who played cricket at the National-level. Bill will have tenure and age norms as no one beyond the age of 70 will be entitled to head the organisation. The President can hold office for 12 years and other members not more than eight years.On the issue of doping scandal, Mr. Maken said the Government would go to the bottom of this malaise. The Defence Minister Shri AK Antony made this offer at the extensive talks he held with his Kyrghyz counterpart Major General Abibilla Kudayberdiev in Bishkek on Monday (04 July 2011). The talks took place between the delegations of the two countries immediately after the arrival of Shri Antony in the Kyrghyz capital. MPs, legislators from Telangana resign

Members of Parliament and legislators from the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh today resigned en-masse pressing for an early decision on the issue of separate statehood for Telangana.In Delhi, seven Congress MPs met Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and handed over their resignation letters along with that of two other MPs who could not be present. Rajya Sabha member K Keshav Rao met the Officer on Special Duty to Chairman Hamid Ansari and submitted his resignation. Meanwhile, Home Minister P Chidambaram today said the consultation process is continuing on the Telangana Statehood demand and a final decision on the issue will be taken only when it will be over. Talking to the media in New Delhi, Home Minister P Chidambaram said, it is an extremely sensitive and complex issue. He appealed to the MLAs, one Rajya Sabha MP and Andhra Pradesh Ministers from the Telangana region to be patient. He said, the party is in constant touch with the Telangana leaders.
