Early commissioning of Kudankulam Plant

Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has appealed to Tamil Nadu Government to cooperate with the Centre in ensuring early commissioning of Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project.

He addressed a public rally organized by Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) to mobilise public support for the project in Tirunelveli Saturday night.
Chidambaram welcomed Tamil Nadu Government's move to constitute a panel of experts to look into the perceptions of local people and safety aspects of the Project.
He added that the Central expert committee had already submitted two reports on the safety of the nuclear plant.
Chidambaram noted that India is not able to add additional power generation capacity in five years what China is doing in just one year.
He said more than 95 pc of the Kudankulam project work has been completed and it was not in the national interest to put hurdles in its commissioning after spending about 13 thousand 500 crores.
Chidambaram said a report has been received on financing of anti-Kudankulam protests and action would be taken if any illegalities are incolved in it.
