UN chief condemns violence in Syria

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has sharply criticized the Syrian government for its continued attacks on civilians and urged it to stop violence immediately.Syrian government forces continue shelling of populated areas despite President Bashar al-Assad's pledge to cease the use of heavy weapons and withdraw troops by April 10th.

The Assad government made the commitments in a meeting with UN-Arab League envoy and former secretary general Kofi Annan.Ban said in a statement on Friday that the April 10th timeline to fulfill the Syrian government's implementation of its troop withdrawal and ceasefire commitments is not an excuse for continued killing. The UN chief pointed to the humanitarian crisis facing as many as one million people in Syria.

China freezes assets of 6 Uyghur militants; lashes at Pak

Tacitly pointing finger at its close ally Pakistan, China on Friday froze assets of six absconding terrorists of a separatist outfit in Xinjiang, the native province of Muslim Uyghurs, and called on foreign countries to arrest and hand them over to it.

Chinese police today published a list of six militants, who were stated to be native Uyghurs. Without directly naming Pakistan, a statement issued by the Chinese Ministry of Public Security said they had spent some time in "a certain south Asian country", where they reported to have undergone training in terror attacks, suicide bombings and knife attacks.
All six are "core members" of the banned East Turkistan Islamic Movement, (ETIM), it said.
"The ministry hoped that foreign governments and their law enforcing departments would help to arrest the six and hand them over to Chinese authorities," an official of Ministry was quoted as saying by state-run news agency.

As a taxpayer, you have a right to know how your government invests your tax payment, and that's why President Obama created the Federal Taxpayer Receipt.
Want to compare how much of your contribution in taxes goes towards education, foreign aid, or veteran's benefits?
Just enter a few pieces of information about your taxes, and the taxpayer receipt will give you a customized breakdown. You'll see exactly how your money gets spent on health care or national defense or the environment.
Go check it out.

For many millionaires, however, Tax Day isn't looming. In 2009, 1,470 people who made more than $1 million paid $0 in federal income tax.
And President Obama thinks that needs to change.
That's why he's pushing for a very simple idea: Anyone who makes more than $1 million a year should pay at least the same percentage of their income in taxes as middle class families.

Thailand bans Shakespeareby sagarmedia on April 6, 2012 Thai Ministry of Culture’s Office of Film and Video said that the film “undermines the unity of people in the country” and that the censorship committee had refused it permission to screen in Thailand. The committee was headed by Police Major General Anek Samplang.
One of Shakespeare’s best-known plays, Macbeth portrays a Scottish general, aided by his wife and a coven of witches, assassinating the king and taking power. Shakespeare Must Die is set in a fictitious country and sees a popular politician use black magic to climb to power and violence to cling to it.
The film-makers say that the reasons given to them for the ban were very broad and not limited to an offensive scene. They say they will appeal against the decision.
