London to host International Conference of Jurists 2013 New Delhi, Dec 07 : The next meeting of the International Conference of Jurists, whose recent New Delhi Declaration calling for giving priority to curbing terrorism over human rights violations sparked off a global debate, would be held in London in June 2013. “The city of London would be hosting the next International Conference of Jurists on June 25 and 26, 2012”, President of the International Council of Jurists (ICJ), Dr Adish C Aggarwala, said in a statement here. Upadhyay The much-feared observance of Muharram is over in Pakistan without any earth-shattering incidents of sectarian violence. Yet, the period did see Muharram-linked violence in various parts of the country, with as many as 38 Shia deaths, apart from dozens of casualties suffered by the civilians and security forces alike. Some other planned attacks were thwarted by law-enforcement agencies, including a major threat to Karachi with the apprehension of a truck full of explosives. It is another matter that these incidents of violence, or plans for violent activities, were not considered as major tragedies, thereby indicating Pakistani society’s supreme indifference towards and acceptance of religious belief-related violence. Earthquake in Iran & Tornado in Auckland  Iran earthquake Iran, at least eight people were killed and 12 others injured when an earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale hit eastern parts of the country. Iran's news agency said people ran out of their homes after the tremor struck the Zahan district in South Khorasan province yesterday. Walls and buildings collapsed, and several people were left trapped under the rubble. Officials said the death toll could rise as rescuers reached the affected areas. Philippines worst typhoon Bopha 500 dead, Thousand homeless NEW BATAAN: Nearly 200,000 people were homeless and nearly 500 dead after the Philippines' worst typhoon this year, officials said Thursday, as the government appealed for international help. Typhoon Bopha ploughed across Mindanao island on Tuesday, flattening whole towns in its path as hurricane-force winds brought torrential rain that triggered a deadly combination of floods and landslides. The army said it was looking for at least 377 missing people while seeking help for more than 179,000 others who sheltered in schools, gyms and other buildings after losing everything. The officials said many victims were poor migrants who flocked to landslide-prone sites like New Bataan and the nearby town of Monkayo to farm the lower slopes of mountains or work at unregulated mines in the gold rush ar

Nepali Cong nominates Sushil Koirala for PM post

Nepali Congress has nominated Party President Sushil Koirala for the post of Prime Minister to lead the national consensus government. The party’s Central Working Committee in Kathmandu on Wednesday unanimously endorsed the decision to propose Mr. Koirala as their Prime Ministerial candidate. During the meeting, Vice President Ram Chandra Poudyal Poudel proposed Mr Koirala’s name while the and senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba supported his candidacy. Mr. Poudyal said after the meeting that the unanimous nomination will help clear doubts that there is an internal rift in the party . The UCPN (Maoist) and the CPN-UML on Tuesday asked the Nepali Congress to name their prime ministerial candidate. Earlier in the morning the UCPN (Maoist) said that it is ready to call back it’s Vice Chairman Baburam Bhattarai from the office of the prime minister if a package deal on holding the Constituent Assembly elections and ending the constitutional deadlock is reached.

FDI in multi-brand retail today got the approval of the Lok Sabha as the Opposition motion seeking immediate withdrawal of the decision was rejected convincingly as BSP and SP walked out.> 218 voted in favour of the Opposition motion, while 253 voted against it in the House where 471 members participated in the voting. US Senate passes USD 631 bn defence bill December 5, 2012 US Senate has unanimously passed a sweeping USD 631 billion defence bill, which issues new sanctions against Iran, changes the detention policy of American citizens and seeks quick action for withdrawal of this country’s combat troops from Afghanistan. 119 TH OFFSHORE SECURITY COORDINATION COMMITTEE MEETING 1.                  The 119 th Meeting of the Offshore Security Co-ordination Committee (OSCC) was held at New Delhi on 05 Dec 12, under the Chairmanship of Vice Admiral MP Muralidharan AVSM, NM Director General Indian Coast Guard, to review and enhance security of offshore installations. 2.                  The Committee was constituted by the Ministry of Petroleum, Chemicals and Fertilisers in 1978, to ensure smooth and effective functioning of offshore security arrangements. KIEV: Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych on Monday accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and the entire government, the presidency said. The ministers will remain in their posts until a new government is formed, a statement said. "President Viktor Yanukovych accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Mykola Azarov, satisfying the demand of the latter," the statement added. It noted that according to Ukranian law, whenever the prime minister resigns the entire government must do so alongside the government chief. The move comes as a new parliament prepares to meet after parliamentary elections on October 28 which raised new concerns about democratic standards under Yanukovych. Tibetan monk immolates himself in protest agaisnt Chinese rule in Qinghai province Another person has set himself on fire in western China as part of a protest against Chinese rule in ethnic Tibetan areas. Tibetan sources said a 29-year-old monk, Lobsang Gendun, had his hands clasped in prayer as flames engulfed him last evening. Witnesses in Qinghai province said the monk shouted slogans as he died, but they said they could not clearly hear what he was saying. Local Tibetans are reported to have taken the late monk's body to his monastery Penag Kadak Troedreling Monastery in Seley Thang after a minor scuffle with Chinese security forces. The security personnel had tried to confiscate the monk's body. At least 92 Tibetans have self-immolated in western China since 2009, with 28 cases reported in November alone.
