India's star Mahesh Bhupathi & World No.5 Daniel Nestor to open their doubles campaign in Chennai Pair will be the Top Seed at Aircel Chennai Open 2013 Chennai, December 21, 2012 : The Aircel Chennai Open, India and South Asia’s only ATP World Tour tennis event today announced that the country’s ace doubles specialist Mahesh Bhupathi will be teaming up with World No.5 Canada’s Daniel Nestor to participate in the doubles draw of the top tennis tournament. The event is scheduled to take place at Chennai’s SDAT Tennis Stadium from December 31, 2012 to January 6, 2013. The pair will be the top seed and hot favourites at the forthcoming tournament. India, ASEAN co-operation in maritime Leaders of India and Southeast Asian nations have agreed to strengthen their range of cooperation, including security affairs.  India and the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations adopted a vision statement at their summit meeting in New Delhi on Thursday.  India and ASEAN to elevate their ties to a strategic partnership. It says they are committed to strengthening cooperation to ensure maritime security and freedom of navigation and safety of sea lanes.  Vietnam and the Philippines, both ASEAN members, are engaged in territorial disputes with China over islands in the South China Sea.  During the summit talks, Vietnam's Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung urged India to help peacefully resolve problems in the South China Sea.  India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that his country and ASEAN should intensify their engagements for maritime security in accordance with international laws.Media agencies

US Olivia Culpo crowned Miss Universe 2012

American Olivia Culpo was crowned Miss Universe 2012 at a gala ceremony in Los Angeles, while Philippines' Janine Tugonon was adjudged the first runner-up followed by Venezuela's Irene Esser. India's Shilpa Singh made it to the top 16 spot but failed to progress further. Miss Universe 2011 Leila Lopes of Angola crowned Culpo as the new Miss Universe at the glittering ceremony held at Planet Hollywood casino on the Las Vegas Strip. As many as 89 beauty queens from around the world descended on Las Vegas on Wednesday night to compete for the title of Miss Universe. The panel of 10 judges included singer Cee Lo Green, Pablo Sandoval of the World Series champion Giants, "Iron Chef" star Masaharu Morimoto and US Olympic beach volleyball gold medallist Kerri Walsh Jennings. 

India and the 10-member ASEAN on finalised a free trade agreement

Targeting an ambitious two-way commerce of USD 200 billion by 2022, India and the 10-member ASEAN on Thursday finalised a free trade agreement in services and investments, a move which would give Indian professionals access to the 800 million Southeast Asian market. Strengthening ties, India and ASEAN also elevated their dialogue partnership to a strategic level. Following implementation of FTA in goods last year, both the sides were engaged intensely to widen the base of the pact by including services, an area of key interest to India, and investments. "I am optimistic that our trade will exceed USD 100 billion by 2015 and we should aim for the milestone of USD 200 billion 10 years from now," Prime Minister Manmohan Singh told the India-ASEAN

Park Geun-Hye South Korean President-elect puts security first - South Korean president-elect Park Geun-Hye made it clear on Thursday that she would make no concessions on national security while pursuing greater engagement with a "belligerent" North Korea.   In her first policy address since her historic election yesterday as the country's first woman president, Park stressed the "grave" security threat posed by the North as underscored by last week's rocket launch.  "The launch of North Korea's long-range missile symbolically showed how grave the security situation facing us is. Kingfisher Plane Impounded December 17, 2012 The Service Tax Department has impounded an aircraft of the grounded Kingfisher Airlines for defaulting tax dues amounting to Rs 63 crore. The beleaguered airline owes around Rs 190 crore to the Service Tax Department, of which Rs 127 crore are under litigation. The Vijay Mallya-owned carrier on Tuesday said it has received a notice from the service tax department to which it has already responded. Kingfisher has been grounded since October 1 following a strike by its pilots and engineers over non-payment of salary dues and its flying license has been suspended. The cash-strapped airline is also facing eviction from Mumbai airport for Rs 22 crore dues towards parking and navigational charges. Meanwhile, Civil Aviation minister Ajit Singh has said that until and unless DGCA aproves Kingfisher airlines to fly it would not be given permission to fly.

Counting begins in Japan’s general election Japan’s voting in Sunday’s Lower House election is  to end and the vote counting begin immediately after ballot stations close at 8 PM.The Internal Affairs Ministry said voter turnout was 34.87 percent as of 4 PM. This is 6.93 points lower than the comparable figure in the previous election in 2009. Authorities at ministry said 12.03-million people cast early votes nationwide. This accounts for 11.54 percent of the total constituents.The number of early voters decreased by nearly 2 million people from the previous figure 3 years ago.Most results will be known later in the evening.Media agencis
