FRENCH PM WINS CONFIDENCE VOTE

38833090_403France Prime Minister overwhelmingly won a confidence vote in the National Assembly after vowing to bring the country’s budget deficit under the European Union limit of 3 percent this year without raising taxes.
Prime Minister Edouard Philippe told lawmakers that France’s debt had reached an unbearable level, putting the country at the mercy of financial markets. Philippe won the vote yesterday in France’s lower house of parliament by 370-67.
Besides getting support from President Emmanuel Macron’s party which has a wide majority after a landslide win last month he also got votes from centrist allies and even some conservative lawmakers.
France is still vulnerable to terrorist attacks but the state of emergency cannot be prolonged indefinitely, French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe told lawmakers Tuesday while presenting a reform plan. “There will be other attacks, other tragedies, other struck victims. But we will not yield. We will fight terrorism with extreme harshness. However, the state of emergency cannot be permanent,” Philippe said, adding, that it was planned to end by “November 1 at the latest.” On Monday, President Emmanuel Macron vowed to lift the state of emergency towards the end of 2017. The emergency measures have been in place after the November 2015 Paris attacks, when a group of terrorists stormed a theatre, a stadium and several restaurants, killing 130 people and injuring some 400 others.

IRAQI PM CONGRATULATES TROOPS ON ‘BIG VICTORY’ IN MOSUL

Iraq Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has congratulated Iraqi fighters on this big victory in Mosul even as fighting continues in Mosul’s Old City neighborhood where forces are about 250 meters from the Tigris River and facing increasingly brutal resistance.
Al-Abadi spoke during a press conference in Baghdad yesterday, less than a week after he declared an end to IS’ self-styled caliphate after Iraqi forces achieved an incremental win by retaking the landmark al-Nuri Mosque in the Old City.
Iraqi forces launched the operation to retake Mosul, the country’s second largest city, in October.
His remarks come on the three year anniversary of IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s sermon at the al-Nuri Mosque, from where he declared an Islamic caliphate. Iraqi forces launched the operation to retake Mosul, the country’s second largest city, in October. IS overran Mosul in a matter of days in 2014.

In this contemporary dance project, the French artist Cécile Loyer weaves together the stories and the histories of dance.
“Histoires Vraies” is, first and foremost, an enquiry into the origins of movement and how movements are passed on. Having been intro¬duced to bharathanatyam, Cécile Loyer creates a mix contrasting two different traditions and their use of the body.
On the stage, 2 Indian dancers and 2 European dancers turn themselves into witnesses and narrators of their own stories. This bizarre, often funny, chaos of gestures narrates our ‘collective history’ and tries to capture the essence of what dance is and to see whether movements, gestures and signs can help us discover other versions of history – less tangible but more moving!
